The Hard Skills is a live internet radio show and podcast hosted by TalkRadio.nyc focused on what it takes for high-achieving leaders in healthcare, academic, STEM, and other technical fields to develop the nuanced “soft skills” required to navigate today’s complex organizational challenges, create healthy, inclusive workplace, retain the best people doing the highest level work, and make a greater positive impact.

Here are the steps to take and what to expect:

  1. Please review our podcast guide on the right (click the expand button on the bottom right for a larger view). More information about ideal guests are described below.

  2. If you feel you might be a good fit based on the description below and in the guide, apply to start the process using this direct application link.

  3. We review submissions monthly and invite qualified guests to schedule their episode and complete a prep form.

  4. We book 6-8 weeks in advance. Most of our bookings will be for the live show that airs on Tuesdays at 5pm EST, though at times we will pre-record if needed.

WHAT makes an Ideal Guest? Here’s our criteria!

We look for guests who can speak on leadership "soft skills" needed to navigate today's hgihly complex, volatile work environment, including navigating workplace poltics, communication, inclusive practices, and creating healthy workplaces.

We are currently looking for two types of guests:

1. Leaders who enjoy mentoring others and meet the following criteria to help our audience learn from them:

  • Work within large, complex organizations (e.g., healthcare, academia, global tech, pharma)

  • Willing to share their experiences with how they learned these skills and how they apply them.

  • Willing to share past or current challenges with these skills and what they learned from those experiences.

2. Subject matter experts who meet the following criteria:

  • Can provide a sophisticated, well-educated interview about the topic

  • Offer a new way to look at common topics in leadership development

  • Can easily pull from a variety of client examples and practical recommendations

  • Focus on leaders in large, complex organizations (e.g., healthcare, academia, global tech, pharma)

  • Have written a book or published peer-reviewed research articles on the topic
